Punta Mita: A Tropical Paradise

Punta Mita could actually be the place of an ultimate tropical dream turned reality. This 1,500-acre area is nestled within a stunning private peninsula of Mexico. Even during peak seasons, the serene atmosphere allows for a quiet and intimate experience with the sounds of nature and gorgeous views of the ocean. Punta Mita is home to the Huichol Indians, a Native Indian tribe indigenous to the remote Sierra Madre Mountains. The Huicholess believed Punta Mita to be a retreat for spiritual renewal and the name itself originates from the Aztec word ‘Mictlan,’ which translates to “gateway to paradise.” Punta Mita is a place of history, ancient cultures, and tranquility.

LEGENDARY GOLF EXPERIENCES

Punta Mita is a hidden gem of pristine surfing beaches and stunning hiking trails. But did you know that it’s also known for its golf courses? Home to six courses, two of them were actually designed by world-famous golfer Jack Nicklaus. There’s nothing like a round a golf with a beautiful view of the ocean.

PUEBLOS MÁGICOS

A visit to Pueblos Mágicos (Mexico’s “magic towns”) is a must. Pueblos mágicos are towns recognized by the Mexican government for their magical qualities, whether that be their astonishing beauty, curious traditions, rich history, or intriguing folklore and legends.

WHERE TO STAY

FOUR SEASONS PUNTA MITA

An endless supply of activities and views! Perfect for focusing on wellness when you really need a getaway from the daily grind, a romantic trip for two when you need some time to connect, or a family vacation to immerse yourself in the local culture and cuisine. Four Seasons Punta Mita partners with Huichol Culture Conservation Program to teach guests about the local Huichol Indigenous people through art exhibits, history workshops and classes. An experience that catches our eye is the Huichol workshop to learn the symbolism and belief system of the local Huichol people while creating a piece of art using the glass beading techniques of the native people of Nayarit. For the tequila enthusiasts, you’ll love the experience of blending your own tequila in a traditional vessel to share with your friends and family back home.

The Four Seasons Punta Mita implemented a waste reduction program to further their sustainability efforts. All soap and toiletries are recycled and donated to those in need through PEACE, a Punta Mita-based non-profit organization supporting the development of underserved local youth. They even have a local biodiversity support program in place to protect the Hawksbill Turtle in partnership with Red Tortuguera.

NAVIVA, A FOUR SEASONS RESORT

A newly opened, all-inclusive resort with 15 luxury tents nestled amidst the forest overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The dream. As you enter through a covered bridge of woven bamboo to evoke the feeling of a warm cocoon, you truly enter paradise. You pass a picturesque waterfall on the left and a comforting lounge on your right, and then reach a 48-acre sanctuary. This resort is adults-only, ideal for a couple’s romantic getaway. Unplug from the digital world and reset with your loved one.

Naviva is committed to “unscripted experiences,” so everything is spontaneous and curated to the preferences of the guests. During your stay, you’re assigned a guide who will bring you to your personally crafted experiences, which bring heritage, tradition, and local expertise to the forefront while rooting you in the natural environment. Their signature experiences include a stargazing safari, Boocaros Mexicana art immersion, and the House of Heat, which is a traditional temazcal with ceremonies that explore focus, gratitude, and rebirth.

This resort is also committed to their sustainability efforts, with solar panels providing 80% of the property’s electricity, local and seasonal menu items, on-site garden that suppliers herbs and vegetables to their kitchen, and a food waste reduction program. Naviva installed SOURCE Hydropanels that use the power of the sun to extract clean, pollutant-free drinking water from the air, meeting all drinking water needs of the resort.

ONE & ONLY MANDARINA

This One & Only resort immerses you in nature within a secluded cliff-top villa or a luxury treehouse, tucked away in the mountains. It’s all about privacy and seclusion here, for a total and tranquil escape. The experiences at the Mandarina connect you to soulful wellness with spiritual practices, ancient Mexican healing practices and traditional rituals. The spa is situated in a volcanic rock garden, grounding you to the environment’s own healing properties. The spa is framed by expressions of sacred geometry created by Huicholes, with a layout based on an eight-point star. Each corner represents an element: fire for the Temazcal, water for wet areas, earth for the spa entrance, air and body for the treatment rooms, spirit for the ocean, mind for the equilibrium pavilion, and soul for the vitality area. If that doesn’t scream serenity, we don’t know what does.

And then there are the epic adventures! The experiences are curated journeys designed for all-ages enjoyment, from surfing the waves and hiking in the mountains, to savouring the authentic tastes of Mexican cuisine and campfires under the stars.
